Founded in the memory of jazz musician Jimmy McDaniels, The Jimmy McDaniels Foundation's mission is to educate young instrumental musicians who reside in Indianapolis, Indiana and Birmingham, Alabama. The goal is to provide educational grants to young instrumentalists to enrich these local communities and the general public.
The poet Robert Browning wrote that whoever hears music "feels his solitude peopled at once." When students receive scholarships that support their dreams, they also experience this feeling. They know that they have friends standing with them, encouraging them to do their best and explore their creativity.
